Puerto Salgar Advances Toward a Smarter Future with Intelligent Public Lighting System
Puerto Salgar, Colombia – The municipality of Puerto Salgar has taken a significant step toward becoming a smarter and more sustainable city with the implementation of an advanced smart public lighting management system. The project, led by the Municipal Government under Mayor Adrián Gutiérrez Gómez and the Empresa de Servicios Públicos, was developed in collaboration with Qbit Smart, a technology provider specialized in smart city infrastructure.
The initiative introduces a remote lighting management system (telegestión) across the municipality’s public lighting network. This innovative technology enables city administrators to remotely monitor, control, and optimize street lighting, ensuring improved energy efficiency, reduced operational costs, and greater reliability for citizens.
“With this innovative technology, we improve control, efficiency, and energy savings in public lighting. We light up the present, thinking about the future,” the municipality shared in its announcement.
Qbit Smart emphasized that the deployment in Puerto Salgar goes beyond modernizing lighting infrastructure. The platform supporting the project is future-ready, meaning it can be expanded to enable a variety of smart city applications — such as environmental monitoring, traffic management, or public safety solutions — all leveraging the same digital backbone.
“This project is a great example of how meaningful impact starts at the street level, combining digital infrastructure with community-driven vision,” said a spokesperson for Qbit Smart. “By investing in intelligent lighting today, Puerto Salgar is laying the foundation for a scalable smart city ecosystem that will deliver long-term value to its residents.”
The project reflects Puerto Salgar’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, aligning with broader national efforts to promote energy efficiency and technological modernization in public services.
As the municipality embraces digital transformation, Puerto Salgar is setting a model for how smaller cities can adopt smart infrastructure to improve quality of life, reduce environmental impact, and prepare for future challenges.
